Antique Dresser Armoire

A classified search one day led me to this old and unique dresser. The top section of the piece allowed for additional storage – and even was lockable back in it’s heyday. While it wasn’t in bad overall shape, it was dark, dingy and in desperate need of new life. And with an updated look, it would be perfect for the guest room in our home.

The most difficult part about this piece was cleaning and sanding. The curves and unique features that set this piece apart are also the most tedious parts to prepare for new paint. There was also lots of grime and sticky residue that had accumulated over the years, and for the new paint to work, it had to be cleaned and sanded.

Once prepped, we painted the entire dresser pure white. A special Gold paint was used for the raised design on the top doors, as well as the outline of the smaller dresser drawers. Once painted, it was lightly distressed and rubbed down with a dark wood stain.
The hardware was also painted the gold color.
I didn’t take ‘progress’ pictures for this one, but you can see the before and afters. The gold and white coloring matches perfectly with the guest room!
