Infant Stacking Blocks

Infant Stacking Blocks

Kids and blocks – they stack them, throw them…. and sometimes eat them. So I wanted to make something myself.

I started out with some basic raw wood. Some scrap wood from the shop, and other stuff is super cheap at the hardware store. I cut out the pieces and sizes of everything I wanted, then proceeded to sand everything down. I wanted smooth corners & edges, as well as no risk for splintering… or at least as low a risk as possible.

Coloring was the challenging part because I wanted something that would be natural, and if chewed on, wouldn’t be harmful. I used the gel type of food coloring and some white vinegar, then soaked the various pieces in various bags of the coloring mixture. Once color, I did a final coat of Shellac – a natural sealer.

The final product turned out great – and oddly enough – nobody has chewed on them yet!
